Trinity Metro Breaks Ground on TRE Double-Track Project

FORT WORTH, Texas — Trinity Metro, joined by local, regional and federal partners, will celebrate the beginning of the TRE Double-Track Project with a groundbreaking ceremony marking a significant investment in one of North Texas’ most important regional rail corridors.

The project will add approximately 2.5 miles of a second mainline track between Fort Worth Central Station and Trinity Lakes Station, eliminating one of the busiest single-track segments along the Trinity Railway Express (TRE). This phase is an important step in strengthening the rail line and preparing it to better serve the region’s future transportation needs.

Trinity Metro’s TRE Double-Track Project is a partnership with the North Central Texas Council of Governments and is part of a larger regional partnership with DART to improve TRE. Supported through federal and regional funding, the project reflects a shared commitment to improving passenger rail service and expanding mobility options across North Texas.

 As part of the long-term vision for Trinity Railway Express, this investment supports efforts to:

  • Improve on-time performance and service reliability.
  • Increase capacity to accommodate future growth.
  • Enhance operational flexibility by reducing constraints associated with single-track operations.
  • Strengthen regional mobility and workforce access throughout North Texas.

Trinity Railway Express is jointly owned and operated by Trinity Metro and Dallas Area Rapid Transit. The 34-mile commuter rail line connects downtown Fort Worth and downtown Dallas, serving communities across Tarrant and Dallas counties while providing access to employment centers, educational institutions, regional healthcare, entertainment, and regional transit. 

 

 

Trinity Metro Cuts Cowtown Shuttles Fare; Offers Free Rides to Texas Rangers Games

The Trinity Metro, City of Fort Worth, and Tarrant County welcome wagon for global visitors for the world soccer tournament just got a little sweeter.

Trinity Metro announced it has just reduced its roundtrip Cowtown Visitor Shuttles fare from $20 to $5 per person. Children under five ride for free. As a bonus, Trinity Metro customers with Texas Rangers game-day tickets may ride to the game for free on the Arlington Entertainment Cowtown Visitor Shuttle.

The motorcoach shuttles were launched expressly for the tournament to offer visitors comfortable, convenient connections on non-match days to Fort Worth’s and Arlington’s top arts, culture, entertainment, sports, shopping, and dining destinations.

Routes begin at 10AM on non-match days to Fort Worth Stockyards, Six Flags, and Globe Life Field where the Texas Rangers play; Tanger Outlets and Buc-ee’s; and Fort Worth Botanic Garden and Fort Worth Zoo; and more.

Trinity Metro Juror Shuttle Service to End June 30

Trinity Metro’s Juror Shuttle will discontinue service effective June 30, 2026, following changes to jury parking arrangements by Tarrant County.

Beginning July 1, 2026, Tarrant County will no longer utilize La Grave Field for juror parking. As a result, the dedicated Juror Shuttle will no longer operate.

Jurors can continue to use Trinity Metro’s regular bus network and TEXRail, as well as TRE in Tarrant County, to travel to and from jury duty. Jurors can present their valid summons or current juror badge to ride free on any Trinity Metro local bus, TEXRail or Tarrant County West Zone on Trinity Railway Express (TRE).

Trinity Metro Preparing Enhanced Service for World Soccer Tournament 2026

FORT WORTH, Texas — Trinity Metro is preparing an enhanced mobility plan to support increased travel demand during the world soccer tournament in North Texas, with expanded connections between Fort Worth, Arlington, Dallas and DFW International Airport.

The agency has spent several years coordinating with regional and event partners to prepare for the tournament and is planning enhanced service throughout the world soccer tournament period. Trinity Metro’s plan includes additional service during peak travel periods, schedule adjustments around match and event activities, and deployment of additional vehicles and operational resources to support increased regional demand.

The plan is designed to support both soccer tournament visitors and Trinity Metro’s frequent customers throughout the tournament.

“This is one of the largest international events North Texas has hosted, and Trinity Metro is prepared to move people safely and efficiently on the Trinity Metro system,” said Rich Andreski, President and CEO of Trinity Metro.

Trinity Metro services connect visitors to tournament activities and regional destinations with:

  • Match-day TRE service between Fort Worth and CentrePort Station, connecting tournament activities and Arlington stadium transportation provided by the North Texas FWC Organizing Committee.
  • TRE service between Fort Worth and Dallas Fan Fest activities via DART light rail connection
  • TEXRail service between Downtown Fort Worth and DFW International Airport
  • The introduction of a special motorcoach shuttle service to Fort Worth destinations and Arlington’s Entertainment District

On matchdays, Trinity Metro plans enhanced TRE service designed to provide a clear and reliable transit option for customers traveling between Fort Worth and Arlington. Service begins up to six hours before kickoff, with return service operating up to three hours after matches to support post-game departures.

Trinity Metro is helping position Fort Worth as the premier non-match day destination for soccer tournament visitors. With remarkable attractions, award-winning restaurants, and cultural landmarks within easy reach of its transit network, Fort Worth delivers an experience that goes well beyond the stadium.

As part of a new, limited-time service created for this time period, Cowtown Visitor Shuttle motorcoaches, operated in partnership with Trinity Metro, will provide convenient connections between Fort Worth and Arlington, linking visitors to some of North Texas’ most popular destinations. The special shuttle service will connect riders to the Fort Worth Stockyards, Sundance Square, the Cultural District, Fort Worth Zoo and Fort Worth Botanic Garden, while also providing access to Arlington’s Entertainment District, including Texas Live!, Globe Life Field (home of the Texas Rangers), Six Flags Over Texas and the National Medal of Honor Museum. Additional stops will include shopping destinations such as Tanger Outlets and Buc-ee’s, along with dining, entertainment and attractions throughout both Fort Worth and Arlington.

TEXRail ridership reaches 55,000 in first 12 days of service

(FORT WORTH, TEXAS) Jan. 22, 2019 – To say TEXRail is the ride of choice may be an understatement. In the first 12 days of service, nearly 55,000 passengers have ridden on the new commuter rail service.

“We have had a tremendous response to TEXRail,” said Trinity Metro President/CEO Paul J Ballard. “The high number of riders reflects the region’s desire to leave the car behind and choose public transportation.”

As North Texans traveled during the holiday weekend, more than 18,000 chose to take their journey on TEXRail. The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday carried the highest number of daily riders to date with 8,287 passengers. Ridership on Saturday, Jan. 19, totaled 4,710 and Sunday, Jan. 20, ridership peaked at 5,005. The total for the three-day weekend was 18,002. TEXRail at Grapevine Main Street Station

One of Monday’s eastbound trains picked up 247 riders at the Fort Worth Texas & Pacific Station and another 162 at the Downtown ITC/Fort Worth Station. On one of the westbound trains, 264 passengers boarded at DFW Airport Terminal B Station and another 168 boarded at Grapevine/Main Street Station. At full capacity, a train carries 488 passengers.

“Throughout the weekend, we have heard from riders who tried TEXRail for the first time – and a few who have ridden every day since we began service,” Ballard said. “The feedback is overwhelmingly positive, and everyone loves the smooth ride.”

At the inaugural run of TEXRail, Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price discussed the possibility of extending TEXRail’s route to new stations in the Medical District and in the TCU/Berry Street area.

Passengers on TEXRail Train“We agree that extending the TEXRail route is a viable option to pursue,” Ballard said. “The initial response indicates that the extension would be a popular option for medical employees to travel to work and for students to go to class.”
