TEXRail resumes regular service

Earlier this week, Trinity Metro TEXRail suspended service to perform scheduled maintenance on the tracks of the commuter rail line traveling between downtown Fort Worth and DFW International Airport.

Customers who live or work around the stations or tracks may have noticed increased activity as preventive rail grinding was completed. Rail grinding is a maintenance strategy aimed at reducing rail wear while improving the stability and function of the trains. Trinity Metro TEXRail employees completed the scheduled maintenance on time, and regular TEXRail service resumed as planned on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023.

Trinity Metro is committed to maintaining an outstanding and safe customer experience and appreciates our customers’ patience during this vital process. Except for scheduled maintenance, Trinity Metro TEXRail operates seven days a week, year-round.

Free transit option for TCC Commencement

Trinity Metro has partnered with Tarrant County College (TCC) to make it easier for students, families and friends to attend commencement ceremonies this week. Anyone attending the ceremonies downtown has the option of parking in the Trinity River Campus garage and then riding Trinity Metro’s Route 46 to the Fort Worth Convention Center. Parking in the garage is free and TCC will have bus tickets on hand for riders. TCC is funding the cost of tickets through its EASYRIDE agreement with Trinity Metro.

“We are happy to run extra buses to accommodate people trying to travel to the TCC ceremonies,” said Wayne Gensler, chief operations officer at Trinity Metro. “Downtown parking can be challenging, and we are helping to solve that issue for graduating students and attendees who are celebrating this important milestone.”

Background

Five years ago, Trinity Metro and TCC signed an EASYRIDE agreement that allows students to ride all of Trinity Metro’s services for free. Students use their ID cards and TCC covers the cost, which is a discounted rate of 25% off because of the agreement. Trinity Metro provides options to all TCC campuses and students benefit with unlimited rides to school – plus grocery stores, medical appointments, entertainment options and any other transit needs.

TEXRail and Trinity Railway Express (TRE) service is restored

Trinity Metro TEXRail and Trinity Railway Express (TRE) were recently impacted by a network outage resulting from a fiber cable cut near a data center in Kansas City, Missouri.

Earlier today, rail operations teams were notified of a network outage impacting dispatch systems for both railways, causing a loss in communications between our operating center and the vehicles. Without this critical system in place, both commuter railroads suspended service for the safety of staff and customers.

As of 11 a.m., the network outage has been restored and rail operations systems are coming back online.

“We are pleased to be able to resume service and that the issue has been resolved. With the network outage restored, we are able to once again operate Trinity Metro TEXRail and TRE safely for our employees and customers,” said Richard W. Andreski, Trinity Metro President and CEO. “I am impressed with our rail, bus, and customer service teams who rose to the occasion and were able to quickly address and resolve the problem while providing solutions and excellent customer service. It is a busy weekend around DFW. Public transportation is vital to our community and all those that plan to visit numerous special events or are commuting to employment. We are happy to see our services resume for the thousands of passengers who have made TEXRail and TRE part of their travel plans.”

Rail passengers may experience delays as the systems return. Crews will make adjustments as needed to return to the regular schedule. Trinity Metro ENVOY staff remain on-site to assist customers. Customers who continue to be impacted should call Trinity Metro Customer Care phone lines at 817-215-8600. Staff is on-hand to provide up-to-date information.

We appreciate our customers’ patience during this time.

TEXRail and Trinity Railway Express (TRE) not operating due to network outage

Trinity Metro TEXRail and Trinity Railway Express (TRE) are currently being impacted by a network outage resulting from a fiber cable cut near a data center in Kansas City, Missouri.

Early this morning, rail operations teams were notified of a network outage impacting dispatch systems for both railways, causing a loss in communications between our operating center and the vehicles. Without this critical system in place, both commuter railroads have suspended service. Operations management is working diligently to resolve the issue and determine a timeline in which trains can safely resume service.

“Trinity Metro prides ourselves on the safety and reliability of both TEXRail and TRE services. TEXRail in particular has successfully operated above 95% on-time performance since the service began in January 2019”, said Trinity Metro President and CEO, Richard W. Andreski. “While reliability is a driving force of our success we are also committed to providing a safe operation for our staff and customers. Without this vital communications lifeline, safe rail operation is not possible at this time. We are investing all efforts into quickly resolving the issue and finding solutions that will make it possible to resume services in a manner that will adhere to our commitments to both safety and reliability.”

Limited service is being provided by fixed-route bus and Trinity Metro ENVOY staff are on-site to assist customers. Customers impacted should call Trinity Metro Customer Care phone lines at 817-215-8600. Staff is on-hand to provide up to date information and arrange transportation as needed.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will provide updates as they are available.

TEXRail sets ridership record in December

(FORT WORTH, TEXAS) Jan. 2, 2023 – TEXRail ridership set an all-time high for monthly rides in December 2022 with 61,689 passengers. That marks the highest number of ridership for revenue service since the commuter rail line opened in January 2019.

“Our ridership has continued to rebound from the impact of COVID, and we are so excited to see the TEXRail numbers soar as they did last month,” said President and CEO Richard Andreski.

“The surge in ridership could be attributed to a number of factors,” said Vice President of Rail Jon-Erik “AJ” Arjanen. “More people are traveling now, and TEXRail is an easy and reliable way to get to the airport. Plus, we see a lot of locals and tourists taking day trips to holiday events in Grapevine.”

TEXRail ridership to and from DFW Airport was 28% higher in December 2022 than in December 2021. When comparing the last quarter of the calendar years, total ridership increased 16% for October-December 2022 over the same period in 2021.

Trinity Metro opened long-term parking options at five of its stations in August, which has also resulted in higher ridership on TEXRail. The long-term parking was expanded to include additional spots to accommodate riders during travel over the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year holidays.

TEXRail celebrates second female engineer

(FORT WORTH, TX – April 18, 2022) – Trinity Metro TEXRail is proud to announce the promotion of Brittany Cain, the second female engineer for the commuter rail line between Fort Worth and DFW Airport.

Cain began her transit career as a conductor on TEXRail in April 2019. When she started the job, she wasn’t thinking beyond her role as a conductor. As she gained experience working on TEXRail, she started thinking about advancing to engineer.

“It hit my radar the more I worked on the train,” she said. “I had been a conductor for more than two years and I wanted to challenge myself in a new role.”

“Diversity is essential to our culture and we’re celebrating this trend of promoting female engineers at TEXRail,” said Jon-Erik “AJ” Arjanen, vice president and chief operating officer for rail at Trinity Metro. “The rail industry, from an operations perspective, is largely male-dominated, so we’re extremely excited and proud of Brittany’s promotion.”

Doug Bourne, general manager with Herzog Transit Services, Inc., praised Cain for her accomplishment. “Brittany is a great asset to TEXRail, and her achievement will likely inspire other women to become railroad engineers.”

As part of her training to transition to the engineer position, Cain completed 40 hours of classroom training and 180 hours at the controls. Prior to working on TEXRail, she served in the United States Army for 12 years.
