TEXRail celebrates 2 million rides

Trinity Metro TEXRail celebrated 2 million rides over the Memorial Day weekend, marking an ongoing trend in ridership growth. In honor of the occasion, agency employees rode the trains to visit with passengers about TEXRail and to offer colorful commemorative t-shirts for riders.

“There’s nothing better than visiting with our customers and hearing their feedback,” said Jon-Erik “AJ” Arjanen, vice president of rail. “We strive to deliver a dynamic customer experience every time, and consistently exceed our 98% on-time performance goal.”

The commuter rail line, which runs between Fort Worth and the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, started service in 2019 – a year before the COVID pandemic. All agencies faced ridership challenges during the height of the pandemic, but TEXRail’s recovery has now surpassed a staggering 30% increase over pre-pandemic customer trips. Trinity Metro has now reached 89% ridership recovery for both buses and trains.

“Considering the ridership increases over all Trinity Metro services, as an agency, we are almost back to where we were before COVID hit” Arjanen said. “TEXRail’s success is attributed to the entire Trinity Metro family, and is only one of the many reasons that our agency as a whole is on track to reach 100% recovery by the end of the year.”

Free transit option for TCC Commencement

Trinity Metro has partnered with Tarrant County College (TCC) to make it easier for students, families and friends to attend commencement ceremonies this week. Anyone attending the ceremonies downtown has the option of parking in the Trinity River Campus garage and then riding Trinity Metro’s Route 46 to the Fort Worth Convention Center. Parking in the garage is free and TCC will have bus tickets on hand for riders. TCC is funding the cost of tickets through its EASYRIDE agreement with Trinity Metro.

“We are happy to run extra buses to accommodate people trying to travel to the TCC ceremonies,” said Wayne Gensler, chief operations officer at Trinity Metro. “Downtown parking can be challenging, and we are helping to solve that issue for graduating students and attendees who are celebrating this important milestone.”

Background

Five years ago, Trinity Metro and TCC signed an EASYRIDE agreement that allows students to ride all of Trinity Metro’s services for free. Students use their ID cards and TCC covers the cost, which is a discounted rate of 25% off because of the agreement. Trinity Metro provides options to all TCC campuses and students benefit with unlimited rides to school – plus grocery stores, medical appointments, entertainment options and any other transit needs.

Seeking customer feedback on passenger shelter prototypes

Trinity Metro is always looking for ways to enhance the customer experience, and among the most visible improvements planned are several new bus stop amenities. Sleek prototypes have been installed on Hemphill to share the experience with our riders and the community.

Because Trinity Metro always try to garner feedback, we are inviting the community to tell us whether the new amenities help their commute, and give them the chance to offer their opinions about the look of the stop and the comfort of the bench, among other topics. It’s easy to provide feedback. Scan the QR code at the new stops the next time you’re out riding Route 1. If you happen to be in the area, stop by and take the survey. To make it even easier for you to participate, here are the locations:

  • Bus stop 1231 at Hemphill and Allen
  • Bus stop 1224 at Hemphill and Vickery
  • Bus stop 2056 at Hemphill and Maddox
  • Bus stop 3578 at Hemphill and Allen

The new shelters also have bus-sign poles with solar lights at the top and larger waste bins.  These aesthetic improvements are great examples of how we can add safety and security enhancements for our customers.
