FTA triennial review of Trinity Metro yields perfect score

(FORT WORTH, TEXAS) Sept. 18, 2023 – The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) recently completed its triennial review of Trinity Metro – and the results couldn’t be better. The triennial review focused on Trinity Metro’s compliance in 23 areas. No deficiencies were found with the FTA requirements in any of these areas.

“During our review of Fort Worth Transportation Authority [dba Trinity Metro], the FTA transit recipient demonstrated best practices in the following areas: Maintenance, Procurement & Financial Management and Capacity,” said Ketnah Parchment, one of the reviewers. “It was a pleasure working with a team of professionals who implements the FTA CORTAP [Comprehensive Oversight Review and Technical Assistance Program] requirements in an exemplary manner. Congratulations on a review with no findings/deficiencies.”

The months-long process occurs every three years and ensures that transit agencies are adhering to regulations and making any necessary improvements. Positive results are essential because they are tied to future eligibility for federal funding.

“To say I’m elated is an understatement,” said Trinity Metro President & CEO Richard Andreski. “It is uncommon for transit agencies to undergo a federal review without findings. This is a credit to the professional staff at Trinity Metro, who work hard every day to deliver high quality service and meet all of our regulatory obligations. We appreciate the high marks from the Federal Transit Administration and look forward to continuing to deliver results for our customers and stakeholders.”

Lancaster-T&P Passage Project construction begins

(FORT WORTH, TEXAS) Sept. 14, 2023 – The Lancaster T&P Passage Project construction began on Sept. 5, 2023. The $1.75M project, funded by the City of Fort Worth’s Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone District Eight (TIF 8), will create a more formal arrival and departure experience and guide TEXRail and TRE riders between the T&P Terminal Platform and Downtown Fort Worth.

“As more than $1B in construction is about to transform the south end of Downtown, improving the ease of access to the T&P Station commuter rail passenger platform is especially timely,” said District 9 City Councilwoman Elizabeth Beck, Chair of TIF 8.

The design team includes the Fain Group, Kimley-Horn, and RSM. This team was selected by a panel of Downtown residents, City of Fort Worth staff, Downtown Design Review Committee members, and DFWI staff.

“The route from Lancaster Avenue to the platform and vice versa will be much clearer and will elevate the rider’s sense of arrival to Fort Worth,” said Trinity Metro CEO Rich Andreski. “This design uses signage, graphics, historic exhibits, landscaping, and light to enhance the route between Downtown and the passenger platform, making travel by rail an even more attractive travel option.”

Key elements of the $1.75M project include:

  • A landscaped and illuminated plaza extending from the Lancaster Avenue sidewalk to the T&P Building front entrance lobby
  • Monumental signage identifying the T&P Terminal passage
  • Wayfinding signage to and from Lancaster Avenue and the T&P Station passenger platform
  • Exhibits and graphic art displays that celebrate the T&P Terminal’s role in Fort Worth’s history

Construction is expected to last eight months. For project updates, please visit https://www.dfwi.org/go/tandp-passage.

Trinity Metro selects Huitt-Zollars + TranSystems for TEXRail extension

(FORT WORTH, TEXAS) Aug. 2, 2023 – Trinity Metro has selected the Huitt-Zollars + TranSystems team as final design consultant (FDC) for its TEXRAIL extension project, a critical element of Trinity Metro’s strategic plan to expand transit and improve public transportation in Fort Worth, Texas.

The $167 million program encompasses a 2.1-mile commuter rail extension from the Fort Worth T&P Station to a new station (Near Southside Station) located in the Fort Worth Medical District, which employees 50,000. In addition to the rail extension, this project also includes the design of the new Near Southside Station with a 100-space park-and-ride lot. Construction will begin in 2024.

“This commuter rail expansion represents a crucial milestone in the development of Fort Worth’s transportation infrastructure,” said Trinity Metro President and CEO Richard Andreski. “By connecting riders to the Near Southside and Medical District, we are offering medical workers, patients and visitors an opportunity to ride the very popular and very successful TEXRAIL. The expanded rail service will provide a great commuting choice many people while also offering Near Southside residents a seamless connection to DFW Airport.”

David Campbell, Huitt-Zollars vice president, said the Huitt-Zollars and TranSystems partnership was created to specifically to support Trinity Metro for the TEXRail Extension.

“We’ve got a great team in place and complement each other in services we provide to bring these projects to fruition,” Campbell said. “Over the years, Huitt-Zollars and TranSystems have been integral to TEXRAIL projects, such as the commuter rail line’s maintenance facility and the initial TEXRAIL line from downtown Fort Worth to the Airport. This partnership brings complementary skills together for exceptional results.”

“We are pleased to partner again with Huitt-Zollars and TranSystems,” said Chad Edwards, executive vice president of strategy, planning and development at Trinity Metro. “Our previous collaborations yielded highly successful results, so we are looking forward to continued excellence for our community.”

The Huitt-Zollars + TranSystems team has partnered to bring Trinity Metro and the TEXRail extension proven leadership and expertise in rail and transit station design. Both firms have worked for Trinity Metro on several projects over the years, including the TEXRail Track and Stations project, which was completed by TranSystems, and the Mahaffey Maintenance Facility, which was completed by Huitt-Zollars.
