(FORT WORTH, TEXAS) April 5, 2024 – A crowd of transit enthusiasts gathered to celebrate the grand opening of Trinity Lakes Station in east Fort Worth. The station is one of 10 stops for Trinity Railway Express (TRE), the commuter rail line offering service between Fort Worth and Dallas.

Trinity Metro was joined by representatives of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Tarrant County Commissioners Court, Fort Worth City Council and other leaders and stakeholders across North Texas. The celebration included a grand-opening ceremony and a ribbon-cutting to commemorate the new train station for Trinity Railway Express.

Richard Andreski, President and CEO of Trinity Metro, summarized the significance of the event by saying, “This train station is about mobility; it’s about connecting communities,” he said. “What this station represents is the future of our city. People depend on reliable transportation to get to work, to visit family and to participate in their community – and rail transit is a big part of that.”

Trinity Lakes Station also offers TRE travelers connectivity to two Trinity Metro bus routes, including service to Tarrant County College Northeast Campus. The new station is part of Trinity Lakes, a 1,600-acre master planned community that includes retail and residential transit-oriented development.

Michael Morris, Director of Transportation for North Central Texas Council of Governments, stressed the importance of celebrating the teamwork involved in making Trinity Lakes Station a reality.

“Stop and celebrate what you have as a Fort Worth family and how you deliver projects,” he said.

Morris also talked about the impact of investment in public transportation.

“When you invest in transit, you’re investing in hope, you’re investing in air quality, you’re investing in cities, you’re investing in economic development, and you’re creating an opportunity to change the world, one station at a time.”

Additional speakers were: Laura Wallace, Director of Program Management and Project Oversight, FTA Region 6; Gyna Bivens, Fort Worth Mayor Pro Tem, District 5 Fort Worth City Council Member, and Chair of the Regional Transportation Council; Jeff Davis, Chair of Trinity Metro Board of Directors; and Ken Newell, Trinity Lakes Developer.

About Trinity Metro

Trinity Metro is a regional transportation system that provides public transportation to meet the mobility needs in Tarrant County. The agency offers connections throughout the North Central Texas region, providing passenger trips on buses, TEXRail, ACCESS paratransit, ZIPZONE on-demand rideshare services, Fort Worth Bike Sharing, vanpools and Trinity Railway Express (TRE), a 34-mile commuter rail line jointly owned and operated by Trinity Metro and DART. During the afternoon of Monday, April 8, we will experience a Total Solar Eclipse around 1:41 p.m. While this is a very rare event, there are many safety items to consider.

• View the sun through eclipse glasses or a handheld solar viewer during the partial-eclipse phases before and after totality.
• You can view the eclipse directly without proper eye protection only when the moon completely obscures the sun’s bright face – during the brief and spectacular period known as totality. (You’ll know it’s safe when you can no longer see any part of the sun through eclipse glasses or a solar viewer.)
• As soon as you see even a little bit of the bright sun reappear after totality, immediately put your eclipse glasses back on or use a handheld solar viewer to look at the sun.
• DO NOT look at the sun through a camera lens, telescope, binoculars, or any other optical device while wearing eclipse glasses or using a handheld solar viewer — the concentrated solar rays will cause serious eye injury. 

If you are driving during the event:

• Ensure your vehicle headlights are on;
• DO NOT wear eclipse glasses while driving;
• DO NOT take pictures or video while driving;
• DO NOT pull over or stop on the roadway and/or shoulder to view the eclipse;
• Be aware of increased pedestrian traffic.

Consider riding one of Trinity Metro’s buses to enjoy the event at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden or the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. (FORT WORTH, TEXAS) Jan. 29, 2024 – TEXRail will have a four-hour service disruption late Tuesday night, Jan. 30, and the early hours of Wednesday, Jan. 31. Track work between DFW Airport North Station and DFW Airport Terminal B Station will begin at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday and is anticipated to conclude at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday. During this time, transportation will be available to carry riders between those two stations.

Eastbound Trains

Train #276 will terminate at DFW Airport North Station (arriving 11:55 p.m.*)

Train #278 will terminate at DFW Airport North Station (arriving 12:55 a.m.*)      

Train #280 will terminate at DFW Airport North Station (arriving 1:55 a.m.*)

* These three trains will arrive later than the regular schedule because they will need to wait for westbound trains to pass.

Westbound Trains

Train #277 will originate from DFW Airport North Station (departing 12:46 a.m.)

Train #179 will originate from DFW Airport North Station (departing 1:46 a.m.)

Train #181 will originate from DFW Airport North Station (departing 2:16 a.m.)

To the extent possible, operations will try to follow regular routes. It is not unusual for some portion of the service area to experience icy conditions while another portion is clear. Operations supervisors will survey the situation and determine if it is safe to use regular routing. However, there are many segments of routes that may be considered too hazardous to traverse in icy conditions and staff have proactively worked out detours to avoid them. Most hazards involve steep slopes and bridges, however, other hazards may include areas that remain shaded thus slowing the ice melt, narrow residential streets with on-street parking, or even shallow slopes with stops where there is insufficient traction to overcome both gravity and inertia.  Detours are described below.

Service will operate on an hourly schedule with the following exceptions:

• There will be no service on Molly the Trolley.
• There will be no service on The Dash.
• Routes 23 may operate later in the day if Tarrant County College classes begin later in the morning depending on if sufficient melting occurs and resources are available.

Express Routes 61, 63, 65, or 66 will not operate during Severe Winter Weather.

 ACCESS paratransit

As much as possible, ACCESS paratransit services will continue to operate during the Saturday service span, but passengers should expect delays based on the severity of the weather and road conditions. ACCESS will make every effort to provide essential life-sustaining transportation. There may be instances where the ACCESS operator will not be able to provide safe door-to-door service due to ice and snow on the ground and no clear walkway. 

ZIPZONE

Trinity Metro ZIPZONE services use small vehicles with flexible routing and scheduling which enables contractor(s) to mitigate icy conditions. Thus, all ZIPZONE service will continue operating to the extent possible. Customers can expect delays due to driving conditions. Estimated response times shown in the app do not factor in the icy driving conditions and are not guaranteed, but every effort will be made to convey passengers to their destinations as safely as possible.

TEXRail

If it becomes necessary to stop TEXRail train service and roads are passable, shuttle buses will operate eastbound and westbound on an hourly schedule between Fort Worth T&P station and DFW Airport Terminal B. Trinity Metro will operate buses between Fort Worth T&P Station and North Richland Hills/Smithfield Station.  DFW Airport ground transportation services will operate between Smithfield Station and Terminal B. Service will begin at 7 a.m. and the last shuttle will leave at 9 p.m. in both directions.

(FORT WORTH, TEXAS) Jan. 10, 2024 – Trinity Metro TEXRail, which experienced record ridership levels in 2023, will celebrate five years of service on Wednesday, Jan. 10. After reaching a total of 2 million riders since TEXRail began in 2019, ridership continued to grow throughout the year.

Ridership highlights

• Nearly 2.5 million riders since service began (through December 2023)
• Nov. 20 was the highest single day of ridership with 6,625.
• Two of the highest monthly ridership numbers occurred in late 2023: 83,071 rides in November (67% increase over November 2022) and 82,492 in December (34% increase over December 2022).
• Every month in Fiscal Year 2023 (October 2002-September 2023) had higher ridership than the same months the previous year.

“Our ridership growth shows how much TEXRail means to the community and to visitors,” said Reed Lanham, vice president of rail. “TEXRail is a safe and reliable service with an outstanding on-time performance. Customers can rely on us for a consistently positive experience.”

Economic impact

Along with providing a great option for traveling between Fort Worth and DFW Airport, TEXRail has had a tremendous economic impact on the communities it serves. By North Richland Hills/Iron Horse Station and North Richland Hills/Smithfield Station, $137 million in transit-oriented development occurred, including residential and commercial developments.

Tito Rodriguez, North Richland Hills council member and Trinity Metro vice chairman, said the train has brought economic growth and accessible public transportation to the city. “Our residents love having the option of riding TEXRail to Fort Worth or Grapevine for day trips – or riding to the airport to catch a flight,” he said. “Long before the commuter rail line opened, North Richland Hills was planning for all of the residential needs for people who want to live near the train station.”

In Grapevine, $105 million in transit-oriented development included Hotel Vin, Harvest Hall and a public parking garage. Grapevine has seen increases in hotel occupancy, beverage and retail sales taxes since TEXRail opened. Sales tax revenue has grown nearly 40% for businesses located within a 5-minute walk to TEXRail’s Grapevine/Main Street Station. Sales tax revenue is up more than 30% within a 10-minute walk.

“The impact of TEXRail is undeniable,” said Paul Slechta, Grapevine council member and Trinity Metro board member. “The collaboration between Grapevine and Trinity Metro yields significant ridership every time the city has an event. TEXRail is the perfect transit option for festival-goers to relax and no have to worry about parking.”

Lanham added, “Integrating public transportation into communities yields positive results in so many ways. I’m proud of the impact that TEXRail has had, and I look forward to many years of continued growth to benefits the families and residents of Fort Worth, North Richland Hills, Grapevine and all of Tarrant County.”

Celebrating TEXRail’s anniversary

TEXRail will offer free rides throughout the service day on Wednesday, Jan. 10, to celebrate its fifth anniversary. Plus, customers have the opportunity to participate in the “Name That Train!” contest, where winners will receive a free 31-day local ticket for Trinity Metro services. Spike, the TEXRail train named in 2019 during the 150th anniversary of the Golden Spike, is one of eight trains, but the only one with a name. Customers and the general public are invited to submit great name ideas so each train can have its own identity. The submission deadline is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31.

The 27-mile commuter rail line, which opened in 2019, provides convenient service between Fort Worth and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport’s Terminal B. The route has nine stations in Fort Worth, North Richland Hills and Grapevine.
